The East Lancs Diesel Week 2003

In July 2003 I attended two days of the annual East Lancs Railway diesel week along with a friend. This is one of our favourite diesel events as it usually has a good variety of traction, as you will see below. We attended 'Sultzer Day' and English Electric Day' on Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th July 2003.

We started the day at Rawtenstall rather than Bury, as there is car park next to the station, and were just in time for the first train of the day...

1. ...which was hauled by D5054. Here is a picture of it running round...

2. ...and one of it ready to depart for Bury.

3. I was carrying my camcorder as well as my small digital camera, and spent the trip filming, so the next two pictures are taken after arrival at Bury. On the way we passed 47839 at Ramsbottom hauling another rake of Mk II coaches. It would be quite a while before we saw that train again... Meanwhile here is a view of D5054 at Bury.

4. Once we arrived at Bury, because of a problem with the rake of Mk I coaches we had travelled on, D5054 took them straight out of the station once everyone had got off, as can be seen here.
