A103OUG

Normally in the J-Files I present pictures and information about preservation projects that I have worked on, even if I am not myself the owner. The case of A103OUG, a Leyland Olympian that started it's career in Yorkshire, is a most deserving exception however, as it is partly owned by a good friend of ours, Alan Scott, who often comes and helps us out at Methil but who doesn't have a website of his own, but didn't want his bus to be 'left out'! I am of course happy to help and as well as sorting out the pictures that Alan and I have available onto these pages, have also spent some time browsing the web trying to piece together as much of the previous history of A103OUG as I can.

Alan tells me that he and his co-owners bought A103OUG on 9th February 2008, but it was stored in the west of Scotland until 12th October 2008. On this date they moved it under it's own power to Rennies in Fife, where they had arranged to store it, the Rennies depot at Wellwood being much more convenient to work on it allowing them to make better progress towards putting it into good working order.

However I'm jumping the gun a bit, as, despite my not being particularily knowledgeable about bus fleets in England & Wales, I have spent some time trawling the web to find out as much as I can about A103OUG so that I can start with a modest history of what turned out to be a much more interesting vehicle than I expected when I first saw it...

24 Years Young!

A103OUG had had a career of about 24 years by the time it reached preservation, and I haven't found out nearly all of it by any means. However after some (enjoyable) web browsing I have found out some interesting things about it so here is a modest stab at A103OUG History

Take 2 Rennies!

A bad pun? Maybe, but here are a few pictures from the day where the plan for A103OUG was to Take 2 Rennies!

An Olympian Task?

Although intact and reasonably serviceable when bought for preservation, A103OUG wasn't exactly in mint condition! But hard work pays dividends in preservation and here is a section with some of Alans pictures illustrating some of the the work done in Overhauling A103OUG!

The A103OUG Galleries!

If it makes it into the J-Files, it is worth photographing! And some of the results for A103OUG can be seen in The A103OUG Galleries!
