Inside Job!
Even while we had started to work on the outside of 26040, we had also started to work on the inside of it as well. However at first this was because the lack of a roof hatch on the (former) boiler-room meant that this part of the inside was, well, outside! Also the boiler-room contained a large air frame that had been lifted out during the asbestos removal, and then lifted back in. So, because it was easiest, we lifted it out again and were thus able to clean up and paint both the whole of the frame, and also have the room to repair the metal sheeting on the wall behind it which had been removed and which was lying loose and then paint that as well. So by the time we fitted the new roof hatch, we had done some 'inside work' in the open air.
These pictures date from the 16th of February 2003, and show this work, plus a view of the more or less untouched engine room and as usual a couple of views of 26040 from the outside.
