Whisky Appreciation Society in Aquaculture

Welcome to the home page of WASA!

Our society was formed in 2003 when a collection of like-minded individuals based at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, Scotland decided to formalise our joint interest in that greatest of all beverages: uisge beatha (gaelic for "water of life", aka whisky).

Towards our aim of furthering our appreciation of the nectar, we have regular meetings throughout the year, allowing us to savour and discuss our favoured tipples. We always make an effort to celebrate days of significance, including St. Andrew's Day and Burns' Night (both commemorated in true fashion since our inception).

In August 2004 and 2005, we had our summer outings aboard the Waverley, the last remaining ocean going paddle-steamer in the world, which were of great appeal to both whisky drinkers and companions of alternative tastes. Fully illustrated reports of the days can be viewed by following the links below.

In 2006 and 2007, the Whisky Fringe was the venue for our summer outings and proved most popular with the attendees.

With our members becoming disseminated on a global basis, WASA will shortly be re-branded as iWASA, reflecting its international presence.
