Nephrocalcinosis

Hosts Especiallyr rainbow trout, brook trout, otller species may be affected (e.g. turbot).
Location Primarily ureters, collecting ducts and distal tubules. May ascend tile mnephron and also affect kidney interstitium.
Type of lesion Chronic, granulomatous response. Distension of tubules and ducls that may be filled with a caseous material. Fibrosis.
Special features Granulomas with casous centres may also be seen in gastric mueosa and gut wall. Similar lesions are seen in the condition ealled visceral granuloma in several species.
Diagnosis Calcium deposits are usually deeply basophilie and may be demonstrated by means of the von Kossa stain. Differential diagnosis: Kidney fluke.
