System Requirements
This CD-ROM runs on almost all personal computers (including IBM compatible/Windows computers, Macintosh computers or those running the Linux operating system) which have a CD drive and web browser installed.

The CD uses a web browser interface, so a web browser such as Internet Explorer® or Netscape Navigator® must be installed on your computer.

The CD has been optimised for use with Internet Explorer®, version 4.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator®, version 4.0 or higher and Opera®, version 3.0 or higher. You can view the CD contents using older browsers, but page layout may not be so good and some text may be hard to read.

You can also view the CD with Neoplanet® or almost any other HTML browser program that supports JPEG and GIF image files.

Minimum Display Settings are 256 colours with a resolution of 640 X 400 pixels. A resolution of 800 X 600 or higher is recommended, as is 16 or 32 bit colour. Standard display settings on computer systems less than 3 years old should equal or exceed these specifications.

If you are experiencing problems with image quality, please read the section on image quality below before adjusting any display settings.

The CD-ROM should be 12x or faster. Slower drives can be used, but load times for pages will be longer and may not be acceptable.

Image Quality
The images on this CD have been created for optimal viewing on an average IBM compatible PC. If you use a Macintosh, or if your system has an unusual configuration, you may like to adjust the screen brightness control on your monitor if the images on this CD appear too dark or too bright (see the instructions that came with your monitor or your computer supplier). It may be worthwhile experimenting with your monitor settings to ensure that as much image detail as possible can be seen. Adjusting your monitor's settings for any page/image will ensure that it is set correctly for the rest of the images on this CD.

Viewing Area
If you would like to see more of the screen and do not want to use your browser's controls, you can increase the viewing area by clicking on the View or Option menu, depending on your browser, and then deselecting the Tool and/or Status Bars. Simply clicking on the View or Options menu again and selecting these items will bring back the Tool and Status Bars when you want them.

Compatibility Issues
This CD was designed to be used by a wide range of computer systems. Any Macintosh, IBM compatible or Linux computer with a drive that can read standard CD-ROMs and web browser software should be able to run this CD-ROM.

The CD-ROM uses a web browser interface, so a web browser such as Internet Explorer® or Netscape Navigator® must be installed on your computer.

Page layout will vary somewhat between browsers. Layout may not be as good on older version browser software.

Future Proofing
The types of files used by this CD are standard and widely used. This means that it should be readable by computer systems long into the future. This CD does not have to be a victim of computer system upgrades.

Page Layout Problems
The CD has been designed to work best with browsers set up with standard configurations. If you see unusual gaps in the text on any of the pages, you may have a larger than normal font size setting. If you find that this is a problem, it is an easy one to solve. Simply set your browser fonts to a smaller size.

For example, if you use Internet Explorer 4, check that your font size is set at medium or smaller. Go to the View menu and click on Fonts. In Netscape Navigator 4, ensure that font size is no larger than 12 point for Times New Roman, or 11 point for Arial. Go to the Edit menu and click on Preferences and then, in the Category box, click on Appearance and then Fonts. With other browsers, set your preferences to use a smaller font.

Some problems with image quality can also relate to the display settings on your computer, although this is very unlikely.

If all else fails then try using a more recent version of either Internet Explorer® or Netscape Navigator®, or contact Aqua Education for more advice.
